There’s no such word as can’t! By Nuala Coombs
There’s no such word as can’t!
«…How often have you heard a client say “I can’t” – it drives me mad! To me there is no such word.
I encourage my clients to accept that some things are harder to accomplish than others – that at some point in their practice they’ll attempt an exercise that challenges them more than they’re used to.
Having taught for many years, I know people love to feel they’re not beginners any more. That they’re at least intermediate. Once they’ve mastered a sequence or series of movements that they’re confident with, that they have control over, I throw a new move into the mix that they don’t quite understand, or that the body doesn’t automatically accept. They sometimes pull out the “I can’t” card or they suggest they don’t under- stand what I’ve said by pulling a questioning face as though it’s MY fault they don’t get it. Of course these are all delay tactics in the hope I will move on. Good luck with that!…»
