A Visit to the True Pilates Studio in Manhattan
«One mission of the Pilates 4 You Journal is to tell our readers about studios worth visiting throughout the world. Today, we want to focus on the site of Romana Kryzanovska’s studio formerly known as Drago’s Gym, now called True Pilates.
Many people often call it just “Drago’s.” Located in the heart of New York City, it is here that she trained and inspired countless remarkable teachers, many of whom have gone on to contribute so much to the Pilates community. Entering the True Pilates studio is a very special moment. Many have read about the studio but few have seen it in person. The first thing one sees is a quite spacious hall and a reception desk. Behind it stands Tom Gesimondo – the co-owner of the studio. Tom is a very friendly and hospitable host, who kindly allowed us to take photos (it is strictly prohibited according to the Studio rules!), and patiently answered all our questions. The atmosphere in the studio is very special; there is a tradition to cherish here.
After asking Tom if they have something interesting that they do not use anymore, he carefully brings to us the Bean Bag. This one was actually made by Joe. It is sticky and old, but carefully preserved. Every object here tells a story, just like this old Bean Bag – it has a history of its own…»
